PHILIPPIANS BIBLE STUDY

DAY ONE

At CPC, we're going to study the Bible together, day by day, starting with the book of Philippians.
This video is an explanation of how this will work.

You'll need a Bible, pen, and notebook.

For now, make your plan: when and where will you do you Bible study daily. This will not be a Bible study where I tell you what the Bible says...instead, YOU DO THE WORK daily of digging in to scripture, and then we review the text together afterwords. My hope is that this will be habit forming for you and bring peace and comfort at a time when we most need it.

DAY TWO

Explains How this plan will work (details below)

Step 1. Read your section. For tomorrow, read Philippians 1:1-11.
Step 2. Make notes in your Bible of anything you found interesting, encouraging, or confusing. Also, mark key words or phrases that keep repeating or seem important to the passage.
Step 3: Answer these 6 questions in your notebook:

1. Highlights: What types of things did you mark in your bible? This is very general...what are some of the things that simply jumped out to you 2. Summary: try to summarize the passage in your own words...using 2-3 sentences.

3. God's nature: What does this passage tell us about God?
4. Encouragement: How does this passage encourage you?
5. Challenge: How does this passage challenge you?
6. Response: What can you do practically in response to this passage?

DAY THREE

Philippians 1:1-11
Discussing my notes and answers to the questions from this first section in Philippians.

What stood out to you?

Feel free to share answers to questions, notes you took, or questions that you might have on the comments section of Youtube/Facebook or through the contact form on this page.

DAY FOUR

Philippians 1:12-18
Discussing my notes and answers to the questions from this next section in Philippians.

What stood out to you?

Feel free to share answers to questions, notes you took, or questions that you might have, in the comments section on Facebook/Youtube or the contact form on this page.

DAY FIVE

Philippians 1:19-30
Some thoughts about importance of prayer in Bible study, as well as my notes and thoughts about this section. Wow! If there is a section that is relevant for us as Christians right now, in the midst of unprecedented disruption, this is it. "To live is Christ. To die is gain." If you find encouragement from this passage, feel free to share on the contact form on this page.

DAY SIX

Philippians 2:1-11
Christ humbled himself to exalt us. Now we have the privilege and responsibility to humble ourselves in order to exalt Christ as we serve others. In this video, I share my notes and answers to questions based on this section. As always, please feel free to share comments or questions.

DAY SEVEN

Philippians 2:12-30
Paul is an amazing writer! He has so much to say...sometimes it's difficult to find the main idea of each section, paragraph (or even each sentence). Today we talk about how to determine the main ideas, and how to separate them from secondary or subordinate ideas. Also, we talk about how "working out your salvation with fear and trembling" is an idea rooted in grace, not legalism. Comments or questions? Include them below.

DAY EIGHT

Philippians 3:1-11
Is Jesus your greatest treasure? Do you find joy in him? These questions and more are addressed in this Day 8 video. Also, we talk about the importance of scripture memory and how to use commentaries. Questions or comments, please mark below

DAY NINE

Philippians 3:12-16
What about our past sins and failures? How should we think about them? Does grace give us an excuse to slack off? These questions and more answered in Day 9 of our Daily Bible Study. Also, important notes about a few changes to the structure of the videos for this week. Comments or questions? Please share them below.

DAY TEN

Philippians 3:17-4:1
Read and Study on your own.

DAY ELEVEN

Philippians 4:2-9
Are you struggling with Joy and Peace right now? Then you HAVE TO read this section, study it, and meditate on it. It’s a must! Today, we talk about a few new Bible study principles, in addition to discussing what is one of my favorite sections in all of scripture, for the purposes of encourage in daily Christian life. Feel free to comment or ask questions below!

DAY TWELVE

Philippians 4:10-13
Read and Study on your own.

DAY THIRTEEN

Philippians 4:14-23
(The final day for Philippians!)  Why are the Philippians so special to Paul? Despite his captivity, Paul is so encouraged by his friends... Can we have this mindset? Of course! This final study of Philippians teaches you two new principles for Bible study: cross-referencing and reading the Bible in light of the historical context. If you have comments or questions, please include them below.
